How to hygge like the Danes do
Quinoa, mindfulness, the cronut. The importance of living well has sprung to the forefront of public consciousness in recent years, so it's only natural that we should look to Denmark, the happiest country in the world, for a little friendly advice on the subject. Ask a Dane what makes for a wonderful life and it's only a matter of time before the conversation turns to 'hygge'. A brief translation to English gives us 'cosy' or 'content', but its meaning can run much deeper than that. Confused? Don't worry, we've got you covered.
Wrapping your head around the Danish concept of hygge can take a little time, but the good news is once you've got it figured out, you'll probably start finding it everywhere in your day to day life. So why is this concept so important to the Danes, and what can we learn from them about making the most of it? Being able to identify what makes something hygge allows us to make more space in our lives for the things that matter.
